Family-Friendly Beaches on the Costa del Sol
For the full overview, see where to live on the Costa del Sol with kids.
Not all Costa del Sol beaches are created equal for families. Some are wide, sandy, and well-equipped with lifeguards and play areas; others are rocky, crowded, or lack facilities. This town-by-town guide covers the best family-friendly beaches with honest assessments of safety, cleanliness, parking, and what to expect with children.
Best family beaches by town
Estepona: Playa del Cristo (sheltered, calm water, small). Fuengirola: Playa de Los Boliches (wide, promenade access, lifeguards). Marbella: Playa de San Pedro (quieter, Blue Flag). Benalmádena: Playa de Malapesquera (facilities, marina nearby). See town guide for more.
What to know about Spanish beaches
Most Costa del Sol beaches are public and free. Blue Flag beaches have lifeguards in summer (June–September). Water is warmest July–October (22–25°C). Chiringuitos (beach bars) serve food and drinks — no need to pack everything.
Beach safety with kids
Choose Blue Flag beaches with lifeguards for younger children. Currents can be strong on exposed beaches. Shade is limited — bring your own parasol. Jellyfish are occasional in August but rarely dangerous.
